MRS. SHARP IS BURIED MONDAY
Well Known Sandy Springs Woman Is Victim Of Penumonia --- Funeral Held From Mt. Zion Church.
Mrs. John D. Sharp, beloved woman of the county, died at her home near Sandy Springs Sunday afternoon (March 1, 1931) at 2 o'clock, following an illness of about one week with pneumonia.
Mrs. Sharp was 50 years old, and a lifelong resident of Anderson county. She was before her marriage a Miss Dickson, a daughter of the late Rev. J. Walter Dickson and Mrs. Annie (Schorb) Dickson of Townville, where Mrs. Sharp was born and reared. She was known and loved by a wide circle of relatives and friends throughout this section who deeply deplore her passage.
Early in life Mrs. Sharp affiliated with the Methodist church, her father being one of the leading ministers of that denomination in his day, but following her marriage to John D. Sharp on February 22, 1905, she united with the Mount Zion Presbyterian church, of which she was for many years an active and devoted worker. She was also active in a number of community enterprises, including parent-teacher associations, Red Cross and various clubs. A woman of genial disposition, unselfish nature, and sweet Christian character, she was untiring in her devotion to her family and loved ones, long recognized as a good neighbor and loyal friend.
After attending public schools, she was graduated with hightst honors from Columbia College in 1899.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Sharp leaves two sons Winfield and John D. Sharp, Jr., and Misses Margaret and Arabella Sharp, all of the Sandy Springs community, three brothers, J. G. Dickson, of Charlotte, Frank Dickson, of Anderson, and G. Granberry Dickson, of Greensboro, N. C.; two sisters also survive, they are Mrs. M. L. Banks of Columbia, and Mrs. Walter Chamblee of this county.
Funeral services were held from the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. Paul H. Moore conducting the services. The body was laid to final rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Walter Chamblee, Floyd Stevenson, Vandiver Sharp, Frank Sharp, J. B. Ligon, and Ernest Garrison.
The honorary escort was composed of R. W. Hammond, R. P. Harbin, A. M. Milam, J. S. Heller, W. G. Erving, Marcus Craig, Harmon Robinson, J. M. Broyles, and Dr. C. C. Horton. G. F. Tolly & Son were in charge of interment.
