Martin Chamlee his Last Will and Testament
State of Georgia Cherokee County

I Martin Chamlee of said State and County being of advanced age but of sound and disposing mind and memory, knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me. I do therefore make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and annulling all others by me heretofore made.

Item First
I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and christian and christianlike manner suitable to my circumstances in life, my soul I trust shall return to be with God who gave it, as I hope for salvation through the mind and atonement of the blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Item Second
I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my Executor hereinafter named and appointed.

Item Third
I give bequeath and devise to my beloved wife Annie Two Hundred and fifty dollars to be paid to her by my Executor as soon as that amount can be raised from the proceeds of the sale of my property by my Executor after my death.

Item Fourth
I give and bequeath to my daughter Dorcas A. Rusk one ninth of my estate after the two hundred and fifty dollars has been paid to my wife according to Item the Third. I give and bequeath to my son George B. Chamlee one ninth part of my estate after the two hundred and fifty dollars has been paid to my wife as directed in Item the Third. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary C. Chamlee one ninth part of my estate after the two hundred and fifty dollars has been paid to my wife as directed in Item the Third of this my last will.

Item Fifth
I give and bequeath to my Grand children, heirs of my deceased Sons, Wm. L. Chamlee and Elisha Chamlee, and deceased daughters Nancy A. Day, Gatsey L. Pugh, Martha Jane Rusk, and Sanfrancisco Westbrooks, the whole of the remainder of my estate, each of my said grand children to share and share alike, that is one of said grand children to receive as much as another, except my grand son William H. Westbrooks who is to be paid One hundred dollars out of my estate bequeathed to my said grand children by my executor, then he the said William H. Westbrooks to share alike with my said grand children in the division of my estate bequeathed to them.

Item Sixth
I hereby constitute and appoint my friend and Son in law William H. Rusk, Executor of this my last will and testament this the 24th day of October Eighteen hundred and Eighty three (1883). (The named William H. Rusk underlined before signed)

Mr. Martin Chamlee died at his home near Hickory Flat last Monday. He was one of Cherokee's first settlers and best citizen. He leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
